Methazonic acid
Substance index - selected nitrocompounds tested by our group /

CAS: 5653-21-4
MW: 104.065
Brutto formula: C2H4N2O3
M.p. [oC]: 70-71 [Ref.]
UV/VIS [nm]: 298 [Ref.]
1H-NMR [ppm]: 7.05 (t, 1H), 4.65 (d, 2H) [Ref.]

Preparation [Ref.]:
Nitromethane is added to a 50% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide while maintaining the temperature between 45 and 50oC. The solution is then chilled to 0oC, and concentrated hydrochloric acid is added, keeping the temperature below 5 oC. The precipitated yellow solid is filtered, pressed on a clay plate, and dissolved in diethyl ether, followed by drying over anhydrous calcium chloride. The drying agent is filtered, and the ether evaporated to dryness yielding 50% of methazonic acid.

Applications:

Novel synthesis scheme and in vitro antimicrobial evaluation of a panel of (E)-2-aryl-1-cyano-1-nitroethenes
