To solution of 6g of (E)-2-phenyl-1-nitroethene in 20mL of methylene chloride, 6g of bromine was added, and obtained mixture was refluxed by 2h. After evaporation of solvent and recrystallization from cyclohexane, 1,2-dibromo-2-nitro-1-phenylethane was obtained with yield up to 85%.
