1-Chloro-1-nitroethene
Substance index - selected nitrocompounds tested by our group /

CAS: 90817-74-6
MW: 107.496
Brutto formula: C2H2NO2Cl
B.p. [oC]: 55-56/90mmHg [Ref.],
IR [cm-1]: 1620, 1548, 1333 [Ref.]
1H-NMR [ppm]: 6.85 (d, 1H), 6.04 (d, 1H) [Ref.]

Preparation [Ref.]:
A Claisen flask was charged with phosphorus pentoxide (42 g). The flask was heated to 15oC, after which the pressure in the distillation assembly was reduced to 110 mmHg. Then it has been slowly added dropwise to the flask of 2-chloro-2-nitroethanol (38 g). The resulting 1-chloronitroethene immediately distilled out and condensed in a receiver cooled to 0oC. The crude product was dried with natrium sulphate and then distilled under a reduced pressure in an atmosphere of argon. On this way, 16g (52%) of pure 1-chloronitroethene was obtained.
